Performance analysis of assembly systems with highlift stations: a practical approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
One common problem associated with automatic assembly systems is that some assembly operations may have relatively long cycle times. As a consequence, the productivity, as determined by the operations with the longest cycle time, can be significantly reduced. Therefore, a special form of parallel workstation known as a highlift station was developed to improve the performance of an automatic assembly system. In this paper, we present a simple analytical model that can help engineers to estimate the performance of highlift stations. This model is particularly useful at the design stage, as only approximate results are necessary for selecting the configuration. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Multi-Objective Lead Time Control in Multistage Assembly Systems (TECHNICAL NOTE)
In this paper we develop a multi-objective model to optimally control the lead time of a multistage assembly system. The multistage assembly system is modeled as an open queueing network, whose service stations represent manufacturing or assembly operations. The arrival processes of the individual parts of the product, which should be assembled to each other in assembly stations, are assumed to...
متن کاملAn Analytical Approach for Single and Mixed-Model Assembly Line Rebalancing and Worker Assignment Problem
In this paper, an analytical approach is used for assembly line rebalancing and worker assignment for single and mixed-model assembly lines based on a heuristic-simulation algorithm. This approach helps to managers to select a better marketing strategy when different combinations of demands are suitable.Furthermore, they can use it as a guideline to know which worker assignment is better for ea...
متن کاملAn algorithm for integrated worker assignment, mixed-model two-sided assembly line balancing and bottleneck analysis
This paper addresses a multi-objective mixed-model two-sided assembly line balancing and worker assignment with bottleneck analysis when the task times are dependent on the worker’s skill. This problem is known as NP-hard class, thus, a hybrid cyclic-hierarchical algorithm is presented for solving it. The algorithm is based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Theory of Constraints (TOC) an...
متن کاملA Bi-Objective Approach to an Assembly Line Re-Balancing Problem: Model and Differential Evolution Algorithms
Assembly lines are special kinds of production systems which are of great importance in the industrial production of high quantity commodities. In many practical manufacturing systems, configuration of assembly lines is fixed and designing a new line may be incurred huge amount of costs and thereby it is not desirable for practitioners. When some changes related to market demand occur, it is wo...
متن کاملFuzzy multi-objective assembly line balancing problem: Fuzzy mathematical programming approach
Design of assembly line is done in order to more coordinate a collection of some consecutive work stations for the aim of obtaining more productivity from the work stations and workers. The stations are arranged in a way to have a continuous and constant material flow. In this paper a multi-objective formulation for assembly line balancing is introduced. As a solution approach a two-step approa...
